Though I did enjoy the series embodied in all 3 books ----If this is the final book in this series - I am so disappointed !!! Nothing is resolved and everything is up in the air still. Why did this end like this? - there should be another book - there should be ....please

I really enjoyed this book. I had read the first ones and loved how everything was coming together, but also had enough new mystery and suspense. But I got to the end and was shocked. One of the main plot lines wasn't resolved at all. I was even checking to see if there was a secret chapter or tease. WTH??????
I love this author and await each new book with edge of my seat anticipation. Per the book description for this 4th in the series, this was billed as the final chapter. What a disappointment! The usual intrigue and nail biting twists keep you going to an ending that is anything but satisfying. I still cannot believe this is it! Too many unresolved issues! It appears almost as though Elizabeth George has gotten bored with this series and just called it a day!!!
Most disappointing. Ended without explanation of location of mother or why she deserted her daughter. This is the premise of the whole book! Seemed to concentrate on sexuality of best friend which was linked to religion of mother. Portrayed mother as religious freak. Book completely unfinished. Such understanding from boyfriend of drug addict and no understanding of boyfriend of a girl hiding her past.

Gave two stars of quality of writing - not story line.
Elizabeth George is one of my favorite mystery writers, and I enjoyed this series, especially since I live in the Pacific Northwest myself. The series was well written and is interesting to an adult reader. I thought the characters were well developed and there was sufficient mystery to keep the reader engaged. However, as others have indicated, if this is the final book in the series, it's a major letdown. Very little is resolved; it's certainly not a "conclusion" as the description suggests. I usually think Elizabeth's books rate five stars, but this book is a huge disappointment as it leaves the reader with too many unanswered questions.
This book was advertised as "The climactic final installment" of the series. NOTHING was resolved. The book just ended. I spent four novels enduring an incredible amount of sex and preoccupation with homosexually mostly to find out what happened to the protagonist's mother. I never expected Elizabeth George to fail her readers so. My loyalty to her survived even killing Helen, but I am finished reading her work.
As a fan of Ms. George's Lynley books, I got the first book in this series for my (then-teenaged) niece, read it myself and ended up enjoying the others as well. I was stunned to realize that this supposed "final" book left major plot lines unresolved, but have been unable to discover any resource that promises another installment. The book itself is well-written and interesting; no one builds tension like EG. But I feel ill-used by the bait and switch and am still looking for closure.
I have loved this series and the book itself is great....BUT how can this possibly be the conclusion to this series when there are still so many unanswered questions. I feel like there should have been a more completed end to Beccas story. Other story lines were left without a ending. I feel very confused and let down if in fact this was the final book, having said all that, I still loved the book series.
